Five-year jail for attempt to murder

The Sessions Judge, Solan, SC Kainthala, today sentenced a man to five-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 for attempting to murder his relative.

Telu Ram, a resident of Gurdaspura Plasi village in Nalagarh tehsil, had an altercation with his father-in-law Ram Singh on the intervening night of September 26-27, 2010 at Hatra village. He, in an inebriated state, had gone to his in-laws’ place to bring back his wife and recently born son. Ram Singh refused to send his daughter for some time. Infuriated, Telu stabbed Ram’s uncle Hari Ram and two other relatives, who tried to intervene, with a knife.

The injured were taken to the Nalagarh hospital and Hari Ram was referred to the PGI Chandigarh as he sustained serious injuries.

A case was registered and 10 witnesses were examined during the trial. The court also said that in default of payment of the fine, Telu should further undergo simple imprisonment for 1 year and the fine amount should be paid to the injured.
