Fill 10% posts of home guards from disaster-hit areas, says CM

Chief Minister Harish Rawat has said 10 per cent home guards will be recruited from disaster-hit areas of the state. He issued directives to officials to relax physical norms for constable recruitment rally in the disaster-affected areas.

The Chief Minister chaired a meeting of home and jail departments at the Bijapur guesthouse here today. He said Garhwali and Kumaoni cuisines should be available in police messes across the state.

“Handicrafts and handmade products manufactured in jail should be extensively used in government schools, police and other departments. Officials should draft a proposal to relax norms for physical standards, especially height for aspirants belonging to remote or border areas of the state. It will help to check migration from border areas of the state,” he said.

Rawat added several plans were in the pipeline to generate job opportunities for people living in disaster-prone areas.

He directed the officials concerned to draft a proposal for marketing of products manufactured in jails. He said the government would extend full support to products manufactured by self-help groups, or women groups. “The sportsperson who participated in Rio Olympics will be felicitated soon,” he added.

Principal Secretary Umakant Panwar and Secretary Vinod Sharma attended the meeting.
