Decorated temples and tableaux royal processions were the main attractions during the Janmashtami celebrations to mark the birthday of Lord Krishna here today.

Devotees were seen thronging temples right from early morning till late evening. At Kanhal-based Shri Panchayati Udasin Bada Akhada Nirvan, beautiful tableaux of Lord Krishna and deity Radha, and the enactment of Ras Leela were the centre of attraction for devotees. The Akhada has been decorated since yesterday.

Shri Mahan Raghu Muni of Akhada shed light on the preachings of Lord Krishna.

Kothari Mahan Mohan Das said Lord Krishna had shown society the right path and way of life through Shrimad Bhagavad Gita.

A huge tableaux at the Haridwar railway station road drew children, youngsters as well as senior citizens in large numbers.

Purushottam Sharma, OSD to Chief Minister Harish Rawat, said the best tableaux in Haridwar would be awarded a prize of Rs 3,100. The first runner up will get Rs 2,100 and Rs 1,100 is the prize for the second runner up.
