Fazilka, November 29

Residents of the area under the banner of the Northern Railway Passengers Samiti staged a protest in front of the railway station to protest non-fulfillment of their long-pending demands. President of the samiti Dr Amar Lal Baghla said the Railways had not introduced any long-route train from Fazilka as a result of which commuters have to catch trains either from Abohar or Ferozepur after covering a long distance by road.

Baghla said if long-route train, particularly on the Fazilka-Chandigarh route, was introduced, passengers of Fazilka, Muktsar, Kotkapura, Jalalabad, Ladhuka and Guruharsahai would be benefitted. It would also generate additional revenue for the Railway Department, he added.

The samiti has also demanded that in view of huge rush, the department should increase the number of bogies attached with DMU train running between Fazilka and Ferozepur towns.

They have sought setting up of washing line for the maintenance of the trains. The other demands include introduction of a DMU train between Fazilka and Bathinda, setting up of railway track between Kotkapura-Moga and Mallanwala-Patti and an express train between Fazilka and Delhi. — OC
