Solan, April 30

Jaswinder Singh Bhullar alias Rocky, a resident of Fazilka in Punjab who unsuccessfully contested the last Vidhan Sabha elections, was shot dead by two members of a rival gang near Parwanoo at 10.15 am today.

Slain gangster Rocky was liquor baron Doda’s aide

He was on his way to Chandigarh in his Fortuner (PB-04-U-9091). Rocky was hit in the head. His driver Parampal, despite being injured, drove the vehicle to the ESI Hospital in Parwanoo. He was later referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.

Claiming responsibility on Facebook, the gang said it had avenged the murder of “Shera Bhai”. Gangster Gurshaheed Singh, alias Shera Khubban, was killed in an encounter in Bathinda in 2012. Parwanoo DSP Pramod Chauhan said one of the assailants had been identified as Jaipal Singh.

He said the killers seemed to have been trailing Rocky.  He was in Himachal  Pradesh yesterday and was  returning to Chandigarh this morning when he was waylaid.

Strangely, his guards, Malkit Singh and Ranjeet Singh, who were in another vehicle, did not fire at the assailants. Rocky’s cousin Harpreet Singh, who was on the rear seat, escaped unhurt.

The XUV in which the assailants came bore a fake number plate. It was found to be that of an Activa scooty registered by the District Transport Officer in Amritsar. The police also recovered a bike with a Haryana number. The owner is being traced. A case has been registered.
