Yamunanagar, February 22

Farmers of three villages today sat on indefinite dharna in front of the Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation office here for higher land compensation.

Protestors said the state government had acquired 259 acres in three villages of Manakpur, Udhamgarh and Garhi Banjara villages in 2007 for the extension of Industrial Area at Manakpur in Jagadhri.

The farmers alleged the state government had disbursed Rs 40 crore of the Rs 180 crore ordered as compensation to them by the court.

Ramdeep Singh, a farmer, said they would not lift the dharna till they were fully reimbursed by the government. — TNS
