Farmer tries to burn his wheat

Sangrur, April 25

Irked over non-procurement of his wheat crop for the past several days, a farmer leader, Bikkar Singh Khokhar, today made an unsuccessful attempt to burn his produce at Khokhar Kalan village near Lehragaga.

Bikkar Singh held the successive governments responsible for the sad plight of the farmers. He said the farmers were being harassed by the state as well as the Centre.

He said following his action, officials of the Market Committee and procurement agencies reached the spot and auctioned 7,000 quintals of wheat.

Earlier, Bikkar Singh had observed fast from April 19 to 22 near the Lehra SDM’s office demanding start of the procurement process.
