Fake currency worth Rs 4.15 lakh seized in Sangrur; 4 held

Four persons were arrested with fake currency of face value of Rs 4.15 lakh in Rs 2,000 and Rs 100 denomination from Rampura here, police said on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, police stopped a car near a T-point at Rampura and seized counterfeit currency notes of face value of Rs 4.15 lakh in denomination of Rs 2,000 and Rs 100 yesterday, SSP (Sangrur) Prithpal Singh Thind said.

A printer, scanner and other material used in printing fake currency notes were also seized from them, the SSP said.

The accused have been identified as Harbhajan Das, Jasvir Singh, Jaidev and Bhagwan Das, police said, adding preliminary investigation revealed they printed and supplied fake notes.

They have been booked under section 489 A (forging banknotes), 489 B (using forged banknotes as genuine) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC, police said. — PTI
