Dharamsala, December 1

The number of customers to banks remained low on the pay day in Dharamsala today.

Sources here said most people did not visit banks to draw their salaries as they were expecting a great rush at bank branches. Meanwhile, banks in Dharamsala remained short of cash. Many banks allowed the withdrawal of just Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 to customers.

Many ATMs remained closed. Some ATMs were, however, working and people managed to withdraw Rs 2,000 from them for some time till they ran out of cash.

Employees in the private and unorganised sectors are likely to get salaries between December 7 and 10. In the unorganised sector where employers were not earlier depositing cash with banks, employees might face problems in getting paid in cash.

In addition to that, a slump in the tourism sector since demonetisation might also delay the disbursal of salaries to employees associated with industries.
