Chandigarh, July 23

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed Haryana and its functionaries to look into the issue of misleading advertisements at roadside liquor vends dotting state highways.

The directions by a Division Bench of Justice Satish Kumar Mittal and Justice Harinder Singh Sidhu came on a petition filed by Ravinder Singh Dhull. In his petition filed in public interest, Dhull was seeking directions to the respondents to remove the misleading advertisements.

The petitioner told the court that he had submitted a detailed representation to the Haryana Financial Commissioner-cum-Principal Secretary, Department of Excise and Taxation, which has not been considered and decided so far.

The Bench asserted: “After hearing the petitioner, without issuing notice of motion as it will unnecessary delay the matter, we dispose of this petition with a direction to the respondent to look into the representation dated June 12 in accordance with law, particularly keeping in view the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and issue the necessary directions if there is some misleading advertisement on the roadside”. — TNS
