Kurukshetra, June 27

Former IPS officer Ranbir Sharma on Monday demanded compensation for families of two youths who died during police recruitment drive here last week.

Sharma also handed over a memorandum to the district administration demanding punitive action against those responsible for deaths.

He said holding physical tests in humid climate was against the norms and the authorities had failed to ensure requisite arrangements for the candidates.

Meanwhile, the health authorities claimed prima facie it appeared the deaths occurred due to drug overdose for enhancing stamina while appearing for the physical test.

Sharma had quit the service to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in January 2014, but left the party in March. He is the son-in-law of veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister ID Swami. —TNS
