Ex-CM Hukam Singh dies; three-day state mourning declared

GURGAON: Former Chief Minister Hukam Singh breathed his last in Medanta hospital today at 6 p.m. The 89 –year- old veteran was brought here on Wednesaday evening after being referred by the PGIMS, Rohtak.

Former Chief Minister Hukam Singh breathed his last in Medanta hospital today at 6 p.m. The 89 –year- old veteran was brought here on Wednesaday evening after being referred by the PGIMS, Rohtak.

 

Sources said Hukam Singh was taken to the PGIMS on February 12 after he had trouble in breathing. While undergoing treatment, he complained of acute stomach pain and was shifted here.

 

A farmer-turned-trade unionist Hukum Singh was Haryana Chief Minister for a brief time in 1990-91 as a member of the Janata Dal. He wielded power in his Assembly constituency and birthplace Charkhi Dadri from where he was elected MLA thrice. He will be cremated at his native place tomorrow morning.

 

 

 

Chandigarh: In a condolence message, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar described Master Hukum Singh as a seasoned politician who always worked for the uplift of the weak and downtrodden. Master Hukum Singh remained the Chief Minister in 1990-91. The Chief Minister also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.

 

The state government has declared three-day state mourning from February 26 to February 28. The government has also declared February 27 as a public holiday in all state government officers and educational institutions as a mark of respect. February 27 will also be observed as a holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
