The electrification work on the Haridwar-Dehradun railway line is nearly complete and the final report has been sent to the Commissioner of Safety for approval.

Ajay Kumar Puthia, General Manager of Northern Railways, stated this here today during inspection of the electrification and other works going on at the Haridwar railway station.

He exuded hope that the electric train would start operating by December end. He said the final trials in this regard would be held in the next two months.

Notably, at present, 12 to 14 coaches train run to Dehradun, which will be expanded to 18 coaches after electric trains start operating on the Haridwar-Dehradun stretch. A new railway station will also be developed.

Similarly, trains having the same number of coaches will be run on the Rishikesh route to ease pressure on these two tracks.

On the ambitious Rishikesh-Karanprayag railway line project, Puthia said it was a major national project which would become a reality in the coming years for which work was going on at a fast pace.

“The survey work for the Rishikesh-Karanprayag railway line has already been done. The Central Government has allocated 37 hectares for the purpose. Also, 169 hectares of private land has already been acquired. This 120-km railway line will be a milestone project for the Railways and we are geared up to complete it in the stipulated time,” Puthia said.

The work to double lane the Lakshar-Haridwar track would get completed by the year end. Four lifts would be installed at the overbridge at the Haridwar Railway Station, constructed during Ardh Kumbh earlier this year, he added.

Divisional Railway Manager Pramod Kumar, Superintendent of Haridwar Station MK Singh and other railway officials accompanied Puthia during the inspection.
