The Chief Electoral Office of Uttarakhand is seeking the electoral database of 16 Assembly segments from Uttar Pradesh. This database will be examined with the state’s electoral database for cleaning the voter list of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar of duplicate and bogus voters.

Radha Raturi, Chief Electoral Officer, stated this at a press conference here today. “The lists are being sought for verification and removing voters who continue to figure in the electoral lists of the two states,” she said.

The information is being sought from eight districts of Uttar Pradesh, comprising 16 Assembly segments.

These Assembly segments are Saharanpur, Behat and Deoband in Saharanpur district; Purkazi in Muzaffarnagar district; Suar, Chamroha and Bilaspur in Rampur district; Bahedi in Barreily district; Najibabad and Barhapur in Bijnor district; Thakur Dwar in Moradabad district; Pilibhit, Barkhera and Puranpur in Pilibhit district; and Paliya and Nigasaan in Kheri district.

Significantly, the Uttarakhand BJP had raised the matter of duplicate voters and had held Chief Minister Harish Rawat responsible for the alleged irregularities.
