Amritsar, January 27

Emphasising that synthetic drugs were not manufactured in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal today gave a call to Punjabis not to let anyone tarnish their image.

Addressing a gathering at Guru Nanak Dev University here, he said despite a record seizure of narcotics by the Punjab Police, certain people were trying to politicise the issue. Punjab was only a transit route while sources of narcotics were across the border, he said. “Instead of appreciating our efforts, our political rivals are politicising the issue, which is unacceptable,” he said, urging the Punjabis to unitedly oppose the “vilification” campaign launched against them.

Giving figures, he said far from being bankrupt, Punjab had witnessed record development and growth in every sphere. He said the BJP-led NDA government had been generous in allocating funds to the state.
