Patiala, February 13

Dr Sawraj Singh, a well-known scholar and columnist, will lead the campaign for making Patiala a smart city. At a public meeting held at Baradari Gardens, it was decided to launch a campaign to make Patiala a smart city. The meeting was attended by a large number of intellectuals, journalists, writers, artists, social activists and youth leaders.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Sawraj Singh said Patiala had always been a hub of cultural, literary, educational and arts-related activities such as music and drama. Government Mohindra College, Patiala, was the first college started in Punjab. It predates Panjab University. Therefore, it was affiliated with Calcutta University, the only university in the country at that time.

Patiala was the first city in Punjab to have colleges in every discipline such as medicine, engineering, commerce, education and physical education. Patiala is the seat for the Language Department, Punjab, North Zone Cultural Centre and National Institute of Sports.

It was decided to mobilise the people for this purpose by holding rallies and taking out processions.

Dr Sawraj Singh gave a call to all organisations and individuals, who are working for the betterment of Patiala and its residents, to join this noble and just endeavour.
