Doon youth held for murdering woman

MUSSOORIE: A team comprising personnel from the Special Operations Group (SOG), Premnagar police station and local police station today apprehended a youth from a hotel at Mussoorie for allegedly murdering a woman and dumping her body at the tea garden estate in Dehradun.

A team comprising personnel from the Special Operations Group (SOG), Premnagar police station and local police station today apprehended a youth from a hotel at Mussoorie for allegedly murdering a woman and dumping her body at the tea garden estate in Dehradun.

The youth was nabbed while trying to attempt a suicide by slashing nerves of his wrists this evening. Ashish, alias Monu, is accused of murdering Gurmeet Singh, aka Sweety, by slitting her throat with a sharp-edged weapon last night and throwing the body on the road near the Prem Nagar tea garden estate in Dehradun.

The police team raided Hotel Raj Palace at Picture Palace at Mussoorie and nabbed him while he was trying to slash nerves of his wrists. He was rushed to Government St. Mary’s Hospital and from there he was referred to a higher medical centre at Dehradun.

The police said they came to know about Ashish’s whereabouts from the call details of his mobile phone that they had put on surveillance.

The police team headed by SSP Manju Nath and comprising Premnagar police station officer Yashpal Singh, Sub-Inspector Dhanraj Bisht and Mussoorie police station officer Kamlesh Namburi apprehended Ashish.

The police said the accused allegedly had illicit relationship with the woman and murdered her over some financial dispute and threw the body near the tea garden estate at Premnagar. He then escaped to Mussoorie.

Meanwhile, Hotel Raj Palace manager Prakash told mediapersons that the accused had booked a room in the hotel around 10 pm yesterday using his voter ID card as an identification document. The police reached here around 3.45 pm today.
