Mohali, April 20

Even as two new cases of dog bite were reported from the Civil Hospital here today, the Municipal Corporation has still not managed to rope in a private organisation for sterilising stray dogs.

Dr Om Raj Goldie, SMO in-charge of the Civil Hospital, said one dog-bite case was received from Phase IX and the other from Santemajra village. He said 14 cases had reached the hospital for follow-up treatment. These cases were from Sector 37 and Maloya village, which fell in Chandigarh, Balongi and Badmajra villages.

He said the anti-rabies vaccine was available at the hospital and all dog-bite cases were being given timely treatment. Rajesh Dhiman, Commissioner of the corporation, said tenders for giving the work of sterilisation of stray dogs on a contract basis were opened yesterday. Three parties had applied. However, the work could not be allotted as the parties interested had not completed the necessary paper work. They had now been given a week’s time to complete the formalities.

Dhiman said the civic body was on the job of sterilising stray dogs.
