Doda highway blocked over woman’s death

People blocked the Doda-Kishtwar national highway for more than five hours today in protest against the death of a 23-year-old woman, who died after the house of her in-laws went up in flames at Thathri in Doda district on Friday.

Family members and locals staged a massive demonstration. Alleging foul play by her in-laws, the family demanded constitution of an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the woman’s death.

There was complete shutdown of all business establishments in the town and hundreds of vehicles got stranded on both sides of the highway.

Bhaderwah ASP Shargun Shukla said, “We have constituted a SIT. However, an FIR under Sections 302 and 109 of the RPC has been registered and investigation is on.”
