Ambala, October 22

Health Minister Anil Vij today slammed the Haryana Civil Medical Services Association (HCMSA) for its call to go on mass leave. “Healthcare is an essential service and it is connected with lives of the people. They have no reason to go on strike as there are no pending demands,” said Vij while talking to mediapersons after inspecting the under-construction building of Civil Hospital here.

The Health Minister said: “Doctors cannot form a union. Notices are given by unions and not by associations. They can only make a request. The enhancement of retirement age of doctors and hike in their post-mortem allowance were my announcements and not their demands. The doctors have been including my announcements into their demand charter.”

“The retirement age has been increased and a notification in context with the post-mortem allowance may be issued anytime. There all demands have been fulfilled and there is no point in going on a strike,” he said.

The HCMSA doctors have threatened to go on mass leave if their demands were not met by October 25.

Earlier, Vij pulled up officials for the delay in the construction of the hospital, asked them to expedite the work. After the inspection, Vij said: “It will take some more time to get the work completed. We want to start the OPD at the earliest. There are some issues that have come to my notice and I have told the officials about them.
