The Department of Paediatrics, Christian Medical College (CMC), conducted a workshop on developmental problems in children “Cradle to Crayons and Beyond Development for All”, which was attended by 50 paediatricians from all over Punjab.

Dr Anjana Thadani from Mumbai and Dr Monika Sharma and Vibhu Narad from Ludhiana were the resource faculty and they conducted sessions to discuss how various disabilities in children, such as motor disorders like cerebral palsy and behavioural disorders like autism and ADHD could be picked at an early age.

The experts opined that neuro-developmental problems were increasingly being recognised by doctors and parents in a similar way and it was important to train paediatricians to detect these issues at an early stage when interventions proved beneficial.

According to Dr Monika, the Child Development Clinic at Christian Medical College (CMC) conducts an early intervention clinic for high-risk babies, which is the first of its kind in Punjab.

She said the department would continue its endeavour to train more and more paediatricians in Punjab so that every child gets the best opportunity to build on their capability to gel with society.

Dr Anjana and Dr Vibhu also participated in a discussion with delegates on how more such early intervention clinics could be set up in Punjab and elsewhere.
