Activists of Didihat town of Pithoragarh district have said they will use the NOTA option in the upcoming Assembly elections in case the state government fails to grant the district status to Didihat. They have said they have been demanding it for long but the state government paid no heed.

NOTA stands for ‘None Of The Above’. This option allows the voters to express that they want none of the candidates contesting elections in their respective areas.

According to residents, they will also make others aware about the NOTA option.

Sanju Pant, president of the Didihat Youth Society, said, “We have decided to apprise youth of the Yuvak  Mangal Dals in the Assembly  constituency of our demands. They will be motivated to make people aware of our long pending demand regarding district  status  to Didihat. We appeal to the people to use the NOTA option to pressurise the government to concede to our demand.”

After meeting youths, members of the Didihat Youth Society will cover several towns and markets. “We will organise street plays in several places to highlight the need of a separate district of Didihat, and to publicise the NOTA option,” said Pant.

Residents say the fight for the separate district is continuing since 1960.
