Diarrhoea outbreak: 100 people taken ill in Y’nagar village

In all, 100 people have taken ill after the outbreak of diarrhoea in Musimbal village of Bilaspur area of the district. Twenty-nine persons were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Jagadhri.

Villagers Ajmer Singh, Meena Rani, Shaymo Devi and Amarjit Singh said the outbreak of the disease was felt on Thursday when several villagers had an upset stomach. The next day, the disease affected nearly 100 villagers.

After getting information of diarrhoea outbreak, doctors from a nearby Primary Health Centre came to the village yesterday. They distributed packets of ORS, but in vain.

Five patients were rushed to the Jagadhri Civil Hospital yesterday. Twenty-five more patients were admitted today.

Villagers said several patients were under treatment at private hospitals in Jagadhri and Yamunanagar.

Officiating Civil Surgeon Dr Ramesh Kumar, along with a team of doctors and paramedical staff, visited the village today. He claimed the condition of all patients was stable.

“I stationed a team of doctors and paramedical staff in the village. It will stay in the village during night as well,” said Dr Ramesh.

Suresh Kumar, Lakhvinder Singh and Ramdyal of the village said people were getting dirty water for several days as a pipeline was passing through a drain near Ravidass temple.

A team of the Public Health Engineering Department repaired the pipeline.
