Former Chief Minister PK Dhumal said a departmental inquiry into the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) money exchange issue would be a formality.

He said the involvement of some senior officers of the corporation could not be ruled out and the inquiry could easily be influenced by the colleagues.

He said the allegations had been levelled against the officers hence the inquiry must be assigned to an independent agency. He said it was unfortunate and surprising that leaders such as Transport Minster GS Bali had announced to initiate departmental inquiryand this added to the doubts on it.

Speaking on the statements of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on the ban on old currency, Dhumal said the CM had praised the step of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as there could be no opposition of the act. Welcoming the statement of the CM that the government was ready for the early elections in the state, he said the BJP too wanted to go to the polls as the Congress government had failed on all fronts and people were fed up by the current governance.

He said development in the state had stalled and road conditions had deteriorated that had added to road accidents in which hundreds of people had lost their lives.
