Temples across the city were decorated to mark “Navratras”. Devotees today thronged temples to offer prayers and began nine-day fasting. The festival will culminate on Ram Navami (April 5).

The day also marked the beginning of New Year for many communities in the country.  A total of 108 lamps were lighted to mark the festival at Gita Mata Mandir at Vikas Nagar. A “Navratra thali” is being offered by eating joints of the city for those who are on fast. At some places, kitchens have come up where there is no use of non-vegetarian food.

Musical start to Navratras
