The Department of Higher Education (DHE) has sought information from government college principals about the extension lecturers who have joined their duties after issuance of a notification raising their remuneration cap from Rs 18,000 to Rs 25,000 per month.

Sources said the communiqué had created a fear of losing their jobs among extension lecturers, who were observing an indefinite hunger strike.

However, the All Haryana Extension Lecturers Association (AHELA), the banner under which the strike is being observed, has denied any such apprehension among the lecturers stating that they are fighting a decisive battle to get justice.

“The department is trying to scare extension lecturers by seeking information about those who are on strike. It may put absent extension lecturers on notice in the coming days. But we are not afraid of such action and will continue our agitation until our demand of fixed salary is met,” said Parveer Goria, member of AHELA core committee.
