Residents are once again up in arms for their long-pending demand of making Dasuya an independent district. Dasuya is the oldest subdivision of the Hoshiarpur district.

More than a decade has passed since the issue was raised. During every election it had been a poll promise, but was never fulfilled. The historic town of Dasuya is centrally located among the Talwara, Mukerian and Tanda blocks. The demand has been hanging fire for more than 15 years. Sohan Lal Prashar, one of the men behind raising the demand a decade ago, said, “An action committee comprising members of leaders of all parties was constituted to pursue the matter of re-organisation of Dasuya as district. A strong agitation was held, but to no avail.”

Last week, the Dasuya Bar Association, led by Harpreet Singh Hundal, organised a programme to welcome all the three MLAs of the Congress from Dasuya, Urmar and Mukerian.

In the programme the demand was raised by lawyers and representatives of the Kandi Sangharsh Committee. All the three MLAs, including Arun Dogra of Dasuya, Rajnish Kumar Babbi of Mukerian and Sangat Singh Gilzian of Urmar, gave their consent to it.

When asked Dasuya MLA Arun Dogra Mickey said, “We are three MLAs from Dasuya, Urmar and Mukerian, who wish this dream of Dasuya becoming a district comes true at the earliest. We are much dedicated for the cause and will try our best for it. We will together meet the Chief Minister in this regard and request him for granting district status to Dasuya.”
