Chamba, March 26

Chamba Welfare Association has reiterated its demand for setting up a birdwatcher park around the Suhi Mata temple here. A proposal for the park has already been submitted to the Chief Conservator of Forests, Himachal Pradesh, by the association.

Historically, the temple holds great significance for the people of Chamba.

In its proposal, RK Mahajan, association president, has suggested that the hillock be converted into a birdwatcher park. By planting wild fruits like apricot, ‘kainth’, ‘sunjal’, ‘darek’, ‘amlook’, ‘alubukhara’, ‘kahu’, ‘phagoora’, ‘dhaman’, ‘daru’, ‘trimbal’, ‘karoon’, ‘kharak’ and shrubs like ‘kashmal’, wild cherry, ‘akhrey’, gooseberry, bushes and creepers having large biomass, the area would provide habitat to birds.

While presiding over the meeting of the Minjar Fair celebrations last year, TS Bharmouri, Forest Minister, had ordered the forest officials to take immediate action on the proposal.
