Delhi beat Punjab in a nail-biter

Riding on Ronald March’s 30 points, Delhi Capitals defeated Punjab Steelers 99-96 in a thrilling encounter of the UBA Pro Basketball League Season 4 in Chennai today. 

Punjab Steelers came into the contest looking for their second win of the season, while Delhi were looking for their first. Ajay Pratap’s seven points led Delhi in the first quarter while Dermaine Crockrell led Punjab with six points. The crowd was treated to a couple of thunderous slam dunks from March. At the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at 20-20.

At halftime, Punjab were leading 42-40 with Crockrell up to 14 points. Punjab were able to restrict Amjyot Singh to just two points in the first half. In the second half, Amjyot looked to establish his dominance and the floor opened up for Delhi. The third quarter ended with Delhi leading 70-63. 

Delhi went up 79-67 but Crockrell helped Punjab cut Delhi’s lead to 79-71. March hit a three-pointer, followed by one from Crockrell. Vinay Kaushik’s layup pushed the lead to 86-78 but Crockrell dropped another three-pointer to cut Delhi’s lead to 86-81.

Rajveer Singh scored a three-pointer to cut Delhi’s lead to 93-92 with 1:34 remaining. The game came down to free throws in the final seconds as Muin Bek made the decisive free throws to help Delhi win by three points. — TNS
