The decks have been cleared for the construction of Guru Ravidass memorial at Khuralgarh village in Hoshiarpur district as Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal gave his final approval to the design and site plan today.

Badal has directed the Tourism Department to immediately float the tenders to start construction work by November so that the monument could be dedicated to people by November 2016.

He also asked the department to constitute a society on the lines of the ‘Jang-e-Azadi Foundation’ which would take the administrative decisions regarding the upkeep and maintenance of the memorial. The Tourism Minister will be the chairman of this society and will induct members from the executive committee in this society.

The Chief Minister, at a high-level meeting, told executing agencies to ensure that the Guru Ravidass memorial is instrumental in propagating the philosophy and teachings of the saint of the bhakti movement.

The memorial will have a spacious congregation hall with the capacity to accommodate 10,000 pilgrims and an auditorium equipped with modern audio-visual aids to showcase the life and works of Guru Ravidass. The hallmark of this memorial will be “Minar-e-Begampura”, which will be 151 feet high.

The Chief minister said the approach roads to the memorial from three sides should also be strengthened to enable hassle-free access to visitors.
