DC seeks report on increasing road mishaps

Officiating Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Maria today constituted a committee to document the reasons for the increasing rate of road accidents in the district. At a review meeting of road safety, he designated Additional SP as the chairman and SDM Una, Regional Manager, HRTC, RTO, Una, Executive Engineer, PWD and district health officer as members of the committee.

Maria directed the committee members to visit the black spots and deliberate with locals and other stakeholders, adding that the report should be submitted within a month. He said that during 2016, 153 lives had been lost in road accidents in Una district, adding that the death toll so far during this year was already 22. He said the state had shown an increasing trend of 10 per cent road accidents in 2016 as compared to 2015.

He said all sections of the society should cooperate and contribute towards minimising accidents. He directed the police to penalise the offenders of traffic rules. — OC
