Residents of Nagling village in the Darma Valley of Dharchula subdivision have something to rejoice as the concrete road being constructed from Tawaghat to the last village of the valley on the China border has reached their village.

This is for the first time that people see vehicles plying in their village 69 years after gaining Independence.

Various agencies are engaged in constructing roads in the Darma Valley for the past one decade. The BRO has constructed the road up to Sobla, 30 km from Dharchula sub-divisional headquarters, while the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is constructing the road from Sobla to Nagling. “The road up to Nagling village has been constructed in a record time, giving an opportunity to the villagers to rejoice. Now, people are thanking the constructing agency (CPWD) through folks songs,” said Sundar Singh Bonal, a resident of Bon village in the Darma Valley.

An official engaged in road construction said after constructing 40-km road up to Nagling village from Tawaghat that is 17 km from Dharchula, we have now to construct only 17 km road to reach Tidang, the last village of the valley. The construction was expected to complete next year, he added.

Prem Singh Nagnyal, an elderly person of Nagling village, said, “The construction of the road up to Tidang village along the China border will enable movement of vehicles, thus making it easier for people to reach the district and sub-divisional headquarters. It will also enable local fruits and seasonal produces to be taken to the markets of Dharchula and Pithoragarh”.
