Chamba, the home town of freedom fighter Sri Dev Suman, today couldn’t observe Balidan Divas with much fanfare as the statue of the freedom fighter lies in pieces at the town park.

Responding to the grievance, Baudai visited the site to assess the damage and was livid to found sub-standard work on the park. He directed officials to inquire and submit report in the matter to his office soon.

Chamba Nagar Panchayat, however, refuted the charges and defended the contractor, saying it was not due to any fault of his but natural calamity the park was damaged. A panchayat official said the report in this regard had already been submitted to the District Magistrate office.

Meanwhile, residents are unhappy that corrupt officials are not sparing even the memorials of the revered leaders of the state.
