Lawyers at the district court today abstained from work in protest against the recent attack on a colleague in Amritsar.
On Sunday, lawyer Vineet Mahajan, who had dragged local bodies minister Anil Joshi to court in the dual vote case, was attacked in Amritsar. This was the third attack on him.
Mahajan was going to his hotel with two Punjab Police armed escorts when assailants fired at his car. One of the bullets hit the rear of the Toyota Innova that the lawyer was driving.
The lawyers of the District Bar Association (DBA), Chandigarh, had abstained from work after an emergency meeting called to condemn the issue.
“It is very unfortunate that a lawyer is attacked just because he had exposed the minister. We strongly condemn the attack and express solidarity to the family. We held a meeting and decided to abstain from work,” said Ashok Chauhan, president, DBA.
Reenu Mahajan, wife of Vineet Mahajan, and her father Rajinder Mahajan are also the members of the District Bar Association, Chandigarh.
