Dehradun, July 30

SpicMacay, Dehradun, conducted a circuit of dhrupad lecture demonstrations by Pt Ritwik Sanyal, a Sangeet Natak Akademie Awardee from Dagar Bani School of Music, in the schools of Dehradun on Wednesday and Thursday.

In his exquisite style of recitation, Pt Sanyal explained to the students how Dhrupad was the spring board of all other traditions of music of South Asia. The three elements present in Indian music were knowledge, aesthetics and self realisation. His music aimed at exploring the sound within, beyond and that which resonated in silence, he stated. The concert tour in Dehradun was dedicated to former president APJ Abdul Kalam who passed away on Monday.

Pt Sanyal was accompanied by Ankit Parikh on pakhawaj, vocal support by Ashish Jaiswal and Anuradha Raturi on the tanpura presented a dhrupad in patdeep with an alap, jod and jhala.

At the RIMC, he rendered a dhrupad to the cadets in Mooltani which was spiritual and intense. It was followed by another of his compositions in surtal.

He sang raag asawari for students of Shigally Hill International Academy and raag shudh sarang for students of Tulas International School, which was followed by a holi song in dhamaar.
