Srinagar, July 26

A 61-year-old man died in a road accident during clashes in the city and 14 others were injured in violence across Kashmir today even as protests erupted again in some areas after the authorities lifted curfew from the entire Valley, except Anantnag town, after 17 days of unrest.

At least 47 persons have died and 5,500 injured in clashes following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani and his two associates.

The lifting of curfew coincided with the separatists suspending the strike after 2 pm today till Wednesday morning, but most parts of the Valley continued to observe a shutdown.

Meanwhile, an expert team, headed by a Joint Secretary in the Union Home Ministry, was today constituted to explore possible alternatives to pellet guns, amidst strong criticism against their frequent use in J&K for crowd control.
