Cultural programme

Government High School, Sector 53, celebrated the founder’s day on Tuesday. Chanchal Singh, Deputy Director, School Education, was the chief guest. District Education Officer Rajinder Kaur, Deputy DEO Anujit Kaur and principals of nearby schools also graced the occasion. Schoolchildren presented a cultural programme and teachers a group song. The chief guest and other department officials planted saplings. It was a fun-filled day. Headmistress Kuldeep Kaur presented the annual school report.

Tiny tots learn new words

“Jelly Bean Day” was organised at The British School, Sector 44, Chandigarh. Students prepared jelly with the help of their teachers and learnt new words, such as bowl, spoon, mix, jelly, fridge. They also relished the jelly and sang a “Jelly Bean Day” song. “The activity aimed at giving the tiny tots exposure to different words,”  said Mona Sethi, principal.

Skype session

A ‘Mystery Skype’ session was held for students of Class VIII at Delhi Public School. The students interacted with Donal, science and computer science teacher from Limerick, Ireland. They sailed through various clues to guess the country to which he belongs. In the process, they learnt numerous facts about Ireland and its culture. They enjoyed the session.

Bhavan students stand out

Celluloid ODEUM’17 organised by Les Amis, Punjab Engineering College, was held at Beant Singh Memorial Library, Sector-42, Chandigarh, in which three teams comprising two students each from Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh, participated. Chaitanya and Riya of Class XII won the eloquence competition while Shiwam and Yashwant of Class X were declared the winners in the celluloid competition. Mandira and Rishita of Class X bagged the third position in the same event. The event is an amalgamation of three sub-events and is one-of-its-kind which gives the participants a chance to showcase their creative, oratory, intellectual skills and presence of mind. It tests the ideas and the knowledge about the film industry. The winners were awarded certificates and trophies. They were honoured by senior principal Vineeta Arora. Meanwhile, Anhad Kaur, a student of Class X-A, participated in Uday Singh Memorial Inter-School Extempore Debate Competition organised by St Stephen’s School, Chandigarh, recently. She was declared the first runner-up and was given a certificate and a cash reward of Rs 2,000.

Manav Mangal’s new cabinet

The cabinet of Manav Mangal Smart World was appointed. A formal ceremony was held and the head boy, head girl, sports captain and sports vice-captain, discipline in-charge, along with the captains of  four houses — Green Champions, Green Acers, Green Marvels and Green Crusaders — were honoured with sashes and badges. The manuscript with duties of perfects was presented to all cabinet members. The young leaders took oath to abide by the rules of the school and perform their duties with dedication.

Painting competition 

Mount Carmel School, Zirakpur, observed the month of April as the “Earth Special Month”. Various competitions were held to make students aware of their responsibilities. For classes I,II and III, drawing and painting competitions were organised. A poster-making competition was organised for classes IV-V  while students of classes VI, VII, VIII participated  in a slogan-writing  competition. Principal Lily Banerjee said the school focused on creating awareness among the students about various issues.
