Shimla, May 30

The Communist Party of India Marxists (CPM) lashed out at HP University Vice-Chancellor Prof ADN Bajpai for implementing Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) in haste, promoting and inviting scholars from his hometown, Jabalpur, and increasing fees that made education unaffordable for common students in the state.

Reacting to the Vice-Chancellor’s claims on his past five-year performance, CPM secretary Vijender Mehra alleged that the VC’s stint was a disaster for the students and teaching communities of the university and colleges as he messed up the education system by implementing the RUSA in haste.

He hiked fee many folds without waiting for recommendations of the committee appointed by the government in this connection, he claimed.

The VC tried to crush the SFI-led students’ agitation against genuine demands raised by the students on the campus by foul means, Mehra claimed.

He implemented RUSA to please his political masters without putting infrastructure and the staff in place, the CPM claimed.

The CPM alleged that the Vice-Chancellor started new courses without proper training or deployment of the teachers.

“The university has become a den of corruption under his tenure,” the partymen charged.
