Faridkot, May 5

The court of District and Sessions Judge, Faridkot, today summoned Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal after a resident of Kotkapura challenged Sukhbir’s acquittal in a 17-year-old attempt-to-murder case.

Taking cognisance of the appeal filed by Naresh Kumar, a Kotkapura resident, the Sessions Judge issued notice of appeal to Sukhbir, seeking his personal appearance before the court on July 5.

In his orders, the judge wrote that the appellant, Naresh Kumar, had arguable points involved in the appeal, challenging the acquittal of Sukbhir.

On April 2, the court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class (JMIC), Faridkot, acquitted Sukhbir in a 10-year-old criminal case.

The case was registered against Sukhbir at Kotkapura police station, Faridkot, on June 30, 2006, on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court after Naresh Kumar had approached the court.

He had accused Sukhbir and some of his associates of making a murderous attack on him on September 5, 1999 during electioneering for the parliamentary elections in Kotkapura. — TNS
