Srinagar, July 29

A local court has given Srinagar’s Senior Superintendent of Police 24 hours’ time to register an FIR against a Deputy Superintendent of Police for his suspected involvement in killing of a youth in Tengpora area of the city on July 10.

"The SSP Srinagar is directed to lodge FIR and comply with the directions of this court dated July 18, 2016, and file the copy of FIR within 24 hours," Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Srinagar, Masrat Shaheen said in her order on Thursday.

Failing this, the officer, Amit Kumar, will have to personally appear in court to explain why he did not act against the suspect.

The court had directed the officer to file an FIR against DSP Yasir Qadri and other police personnel on July 18 after the youngster’s father had approached the court.

Shabir Ahmad Mir was allegedly killed inside his house at Tengpora in Batamaloo on July 10.

The complainant claimed the court did not lodge an FIR despite the court’s orders and wanted contempt proceedings initiated against the officer.

The state argued that the case was already being investigated. The court however said the previous FIR contained different facts and therefore could not be used for the suspected offence. — PTI
