Panipat, January 9

Councillor Kamlesh Majoka has started an indefinite dharna at the gate of the Municipal Corporation (MC) here over alleged neglect of her ward.

Kamlesh alleged that MC officials were not giving attention to development works in her ward 2. “We have to face the anger of residents who have elected us, but the MC officials are not giving heed to our issues,” she added.

She said nearly 3,000 children were studying in a government school in Noorwala in three shifts, but building of the school was in a pathetic condition and students also faced the problem of waterlogging during rainy days.

Madan Lal Majoka, father-in-law of the councillor, said the House had passed a resolution to shift the school to the Barsat road two years ago, but it was still on papers.

“Several development works in the ward have not been started even after allotting tenders,” he alleged.

He said their other demands include increasing the number of sweepers, maintenance and construction of streets and roads, construction of a park, demarcation of corporation’s land in the ward.

“The case of shifting of the school building was sent to the Director, Urban Local Bodies, for approval two months ago and we are waiting for the directions,” said, Veena Hooda, Commissioner, MC.

The maximum area of the ward 2 was not approved and it was not possible to start development work there, she said, adding that the councillors had been asked to constitute Resident Welfare Associations for development of their areas.
