Key accused says victim was upset with parents

LUDHIANA: Sultan, believed to be the lover of a17-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped and later set on fire at her house in Dhandari area on December 4, has told the police that he had been in touch with the girl’s family while the couple was in Delhi on October 25 and 26.

Sultan, believed to be the lover of a17-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped and later set on fire at her house in Dhandari area on December 4, has told the police that he had been in touch with the girl’s family while the couple was in Delhi on October 25 and 26. He claimed that the girl had eloped with him.

The police has summoned Sultan’s relatives to gather more information, said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rupinder Kaur. Sources said Sultan had told the police that he had spoken to the girl over the phone the day she was set on fire. The girl, he claimed, was upset with her parents.

The girl’s family had claimed that she had been kidnapped by four youths, Bikki, Shahzad, Babbu and Anwar.Shahzad’s mother had  claimed 

that her son had been falsely implicated in the “honour killing” case.
