Mohali, May 27

A woman NRI settled in Australia today heaved a sigh of relief on finding her purse containing documents and money intact at the police station.

Aditi Kaushik, who gave her local address as Sector 36, Chandigarh, said she had received all her documents and money from the police.  In a letter addressed to the SHO, International Airport, Mohali, she said  the police had done an “excellent and remarkable job”.

SHO HS Bal told Chandigarh Tribune that Kaushik had come to India from Australia after two and a half years. From Delhi, she came to the Mohali airport and forgot her purse on a trolley in the parking area. Someone at the airport informed the police, who took the bag in their possession. The police could not find an identity document in the purse. However, a slip with a telephone number was found on it. The phone number was that of a friend of Kaushik.

The police then got in touch with Kaushik’s family. She came to the airport with her father to collect the purse. The father wanted to give a reward, but the police declined to accept it, the SHO said.
