Mohali, December 1

Sleuths of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (Flying Squad I) today nabbed a head constable of the Mohali police while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 in front of the Mullanpur police station.

The accused, Ram Sanjeevan, who was posted at the police station, had allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 from the complainant, Jang Bahadur, a resident of Teera village, to release a report of “sapurdari” of his JCB machine and a tractor-trailer.

“The deal was settled for Rs 10,000 and the head constable called the complainant to hand over the amount to him near the Mullanpur police station,” said Inspector Sanjiv Bhatt, SHO of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau police station here.

The JCB machine and the tractor-trailer were impounded by the police in a case of illegal mining registered at the Mullanpur police station a few days ago, said Bhatt.

On Jang Bahadur’s complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap and caught the head constable red-handed.
