Constable dies as CTU bus hits bike

CHANDIGARH: A UT constable was killed after the two-wheeler he was riding was hit by a CTU bus on the road separating Sectors 27 and 28 this morning.

A UT constable was killed after the two-wheeler he was riding was hit by a CTU bus on the road separating Sectors 27 and 28 this morning.

The bus was coming from the wrong side since an ambulance had met with an accident at the Sector 27/28 light point following which the traffic was diverted to the other lane. According to the police, the victim, Kesar Singh (59), was heading towards Sector 26 when the bus coming from the opposite side hit the victim head-on. The victim fell from the motorcycle and suffered a head injury.

The police were informed and the injured rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

SI Dilbag Singh, the investigating officer of the case, said bus driver Jaspreet Singh was arrested and the bus impounded. The driver was later released on bail. The victim was posted as a driver at a workshop in Sector 29.

Eyewitness account

Nirmal Singh, an eyewitness to the accident, said after the head-on collision with the bus, the biker was tossed into the air and fell on the road. “He was profusely bleeding and was lifted by the bus driver and two others to the roadside,” he said.
