A three-member committee, constituted earlier this month to look into suspended party leader Bir Devinder Singh’s outburst against Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Capt Amarinder Singh, is learnt to have recommended his expulsion.

In its report submitted to the PPCC president, the committee headed by MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and including Ajaib Singh Bhatti and Rana KP Singh is said to have quoted Bir Devinder’s utterances ever since he joined the Congress.

Though Amarinder was not available for comment, sources close to him said the expulsion would be decided in consultation with the party high command as Bir Devinder had reportedly approached the latter and explained his position. When contacted, he said, “I do not want to comment on the issue. Let the party high command take a call.”

After being suspended, the former Deputy Speaker had met the party’s poll strategist, Prashant Kishor.

Following the suspension, Amarinder had stated that indiscipline in the party would not be tolerated. Bir Devinder had accused Amarinder of inaccessibility, a charge refuted by the PPCC chief.

The committee had asked Bir Devinder to reply by today why further action should not be taken against him.
