Congress MLA protests ‘inflated’ power bills

Congress MLA from Tigaon Lalit Nagar today staged a dharna outside the office of the DHBVN in protest against wrong and inflated power bills given to residents of his constituency in the district.

Addressing the residents, Nagar alleged that officials of the DHBVN were inefficient and corrupt. He said that hundreds of bills recently given to the residents had been highly inflated and issued without verification and the officials had failed to resolve the problem despite several requests and reminders.

He alleged that corruption in the department that had made the poor and middle class residents a victim. He said a majority of the residents in Tigaon had been residing in houses built on 50 to 100 sq feet plots and ought to get bills of the amount less than Rs 3,000 per month, but bills handed over them were several times higher. “One of the residents received a shock when he got a bill of Rs 82 lakh,” he said, adding that a poor widow and a peon had received bills of Rs 86,000 and Rs 1.37 lakh, respectively.

He said it had left a majority of the consumers harassed, but the officials concerned had failed to rectify the bills and to check reasons behind faulty meter reading or method of preparing bills.

Announcing that the issue would be taken up in the Assembly, Nagar said that the residents would be left with no option but to intensify their agitation if the authorities failed to act soon.
