A day after Tariq Hameed Karra joined the Congress, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got a shot in the arm as a Congress leader from central Kashmir joined the party here today. Nazir Ahmad Khan joined the PDP at a function chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and senior party leaders.

Khan has been in active politics for the last two decades and in the last Assembly elections, he lost to then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from Beerwah in Budgam by less than 1,000 votes, a PDP spokesman said.

“He (Khan) comes from a good political legacy and is full of enthusiasm to work for the people of the area and his entry into the party is like a homecoming for him. The party needs young leaders like him to carry forward and implement the agenda of the party which aims at bringing happiness and prosperity back to the state,” Mehbooba said while addressing a large number of people from Budgam district on the occasion.

Khan’s father Mohammad Sarfaraz Khan was a long-time associate of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
