Shimla, August 30

Fourteen Congress councillors in the Shimla Municpal Corporation today lashed out at Mayor Sanjay Chauhan for politicising the Yug Gupta murder case rather than joining hands with citizens of the town to ensure that the culprits were punished.

In a statement today, the councilors termed unfortunate the attempt by the Mayor to shift the blame on the police, CID and the Urban Development Minister. They expressed surprise that the Mayor was questioning the investigations into the Yug murder case and blaming the government for the negligence.

In a statement issued here, councillors Shashi Shekhar Chinu, Sushant Keprete, Surinder Chauhan Sanjay Parmar, Narinder Thakur, Kuldeep Thakur, Alok Pathania, Praveen Kumar, Deepak Rohal, Inderjeet Singh, Usha Devi Lakhanpal, Archana Dhawan, Uma Kaushal and Sushma Kuthiala said the fact of the matter was that it was solely due to the proper investigation by the police and CID that the case could be solved.

“The state is feeling embarrassed at the unfortunate turn of events that led to the death of a four-year child and a responsible person like the Mayor is playing a dirty blame game,” they regretted. They also took objection to the remarks made by the Mayor against Sudhir Sharma, Minister for Urban Development

“The Mayor is questioning the working of the minister and the state government but before that he needs to do a lot of answering with respect to the negligence on his and the Deputy Mayor’s part,” they said.

The people want an explanation from them as both seem to be busy roaming abroad. The councillors have demanded that the Shimla MC under the AMRUT scheme should evolve new mechanism for tank cleaning.
