Cong names 10 more for Punjab polls; Aujla for Amritsar LS byelection

The Congress on Friday announced 10 more candidates for the Punjab Assembly elections even as it named Gurjit Singh Aujla as the candidate for the Amritsar Lok Sabha bypoll.

Rajkumar Gupta has replaced Tejinder Bittu as Congress candidate from Jalandhar North Assembly constituency.

MLA Joginder Panjgrain gets ticket from Bhadaur in place of Nirmal Nimma.

Singer Satwinder Bitti will be the Congress candidate from Sahnewal. Lov Kumar Goldy will contest from Garhshankar.

The candidature of Gurjit Singh Aujla for Amritsar Lok Sabha seat bypoll was officially approved by AICC president Sonia Gandhi.

The Amritsar parliamentary seat was vacated following the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh from the Lok Sabha over the SYL issue.

Aujla, president of the Amritsar District Congress Committee (Rural), had worked aggressively for Captain Amarinder during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
